Message from the founder...

My journey with glass started in Alaska in 2016 when I randomly chanced upon a glass shop offering classes. While I had enjoyed various creative activities since childhood, something about glass fully captured my heart and I've never looked back!

For me, being creative is not just enjoyable, it is genuinely restorative. I can let the cares of life fade and simple go where my imagination takes me without judgment or worry or stress. For this reason, I purchased my building in 2022 and began working to create a shop where I can share glass with Chattanoogans who might find the same joy in glass and art as I have.

Just so you know, in our shop, we don't put on airs and pretend that one form of art is "higher" than another. We don't distinguish between accomplished artist and those who enjoy crafts or folk art. After all, you don't have to have an art degree or be in galleries to create truly outstanding work. From pure novices to professionals, everyone has valued artistic ideas to share and celebrate. You are warmly invited to come share them with us.

FAQs

What materials are used?

We use high-quality fusible glass (Bullseye 90 COE) and safe tools for all classes. Materials/tools provided unless otherwise noted. Additional materials can be purchased separately.

Do I need experience?

No experience needed! Classes are designed for beginners and beyond. Skill level required will be noted on class registration page.

How long is each class?

Each class session typically last about two hours, giving you plenty of time to create. However, this varies widely depending on whether it is a single-session or multi-session class.

Is there any risk of injury?

While this is not currently offered, it will likely be available in the future. Because we are a small studio, our initial focus will be on providing space and tools for current students.

Are supplies included?

Yes, prices for each class include all necessary materials with no additional purchases needed. Some students may choose to purchase a different color for their project (optional).

What safety measures must I follow?

Eye protection must be worn when cutting glass (provided). Required attire includes long pants (no shorts/capris) and closed-toe shoes (no sandals or open shoes).

What is fused glass?

Fused glass is considered "warm glass" because it is fired in a closed kiln once composed. We do NOT do glass blowing ("hot glass") or any project requiring a furnace (the "glory hole").

Do you rent studio time or kiln space?

Yes, if you work with glass and sharp tools, then there is a risk of injury. However, when glass is handled properly, cuts are usually minor. Waivers must be signed to participate.

Anyone you would discourage participating?

Because minor cuts are likely (or more serious cuts if handled improperly), those with blood conditions or on blood thinners which produce excessive bleeding should consider carefully whether working with glass is an appropriate hobby.

Are you looking for instructors?

Yes, we would like to offer classes of various types (e.g., paint making, paper making, needle work, jewelry, metal clay, etc.). Interested instructors, please reach out directly or through our contact page.

Will you offer classes for children?

We may offer classes for parents and children in the future (e.g., holiday art such as ornaments). Both parent and child would participate (parents responsible for child safety).

Why is glass so expensive?

Such a good question. Prices on glass have increased enormously in part due to ecological safety measures in its production. Our shop must follow current glass pricing.
