Jewelry: Intro to Metal Clay

$249.00

Out of stock

DESCRIPTION: If you love the idea of making your own jewelry and have never been introduced to metal clay, you are in for a treat.  With silver metal clay, powdered metal is added to certain binders to make it feel and work like soft clay. This means you can easily press designs into the metal clay for professional-looking results. Once fired, the binders burn away, leaving jewelry that is 99.9% pure silver.

CLASS LENGTH: Two, 2-hour classes (4 hours total)
CLASS DATES: TBD

STUDENT MAX: 10

NOTE: Class price will reflect instruction price ($149) and a separate materials price to be determined closer to class dates (cost of materials fluctuate with price of silver).

All participates must sign a waiver to participate in class. While working with metal clay is not expected to produce any likely injuries, there are chemical products used in cleaning and stiff-bristle brushes that, if used improperly, could result in minor injuries. We'll go over safety measures to limit the likelihood of injury, but each student is responsible for maintaining safe practices and ensuring their own safety by following guidelines. Guidelines will be emailed 30 days prior to class and must be attested and waivers signed AT LEAST 14 DAYS PRIOR TO CLASS. Otherwise, attendance will be cancelled.

SUGGESTED ATTIRE: Unlike glass, metal clay poses no particular risk. However, long pants and closed-toe shoes are suggested in case of spills of any harsh cleaners that may be used.

MASKS SUGGESTED: When sanding or filing metal products, dust can be generated and would not be healthy to breathe. N95 masks (or better) are suggested to prevent any accidental inhaling of dust particles when sanding or filing. It is up to the student to wear any protective gear needed.
